Death of an Icon
Death of an Icon (detail)
The rusty nails used in this series (originally a set of six pieces) were saved from renovations carried out on an Edwardian house in East London.
Giving in to feelings of obsessive compulsion Robert saved every nail and started arranging them into scenarios, where the nails took on human form.
The idea was to present the nails in a similar way that museums and archeologists display objects of great value and historic significance.
